3 Secrets to Staying Healthy That You Shouldn't Overlook


If you want to bring your body into balance and heal any health condition, here are three steps that are indispensable.  I think they are three of the most important things you can do, and yet it’s so easy to cast them aside and instead look for a magic pill or supplement or dietary protocol that will fix everything.

In today’s blog, I’m sharing my secrets. I can often get so focused and engaged in my work that I forget about these rock star healing protocols myself. But this weekend, I put them into full swing. Guess what? They work.

 

1.       Switch up your environment and take a vacation


When you get out of your everyday routine and take a vacation, it clears your head, gives you a fresh perspective on life, and offers the chance for supreme relaxation and rejuvenating your spirit. This, my friend, is better than a magic pill.

It doesn’t have to be a big vacation. Even getting away for a day trip and heading into nature (or whatever floats your boat) will do the trick.

A couple of years ago, I had one of the most visually mesmerizing experiences of my life as I watched the sun set high in the mountain woods at our camping spot in Pisgah National Forest.

This scene simply took my breath away....

I remembered to pause and really take it in. It has been imprinted on my mind ever since.

Did you ever notice that negative memories stick like velcro and happy memories can slip away easily? Next time you have a breathtaking moment, remember to pause and be present and let it soak in. It will be easier to recall later.


2.       Do something on your bucket list


What have you always wanted to do but haven’t yet done for one reason or another?  What has been in the back of your mind for a long, long time that you would be crazy excited to do?

One thing that has been on my mental Bucket List since I was 17 is taking an art workshop at the acclaimed Penland School of Crafts, a 100+ year old school in the beautiful mountains outside of Asheville, NC.

I just signed up to go to Penland this summer for a Printmaking workshop and am head over heels excited about it!

This very act of signing up is creating healing molecules in my body. Once you register into something, everything starts to shift.

Even though my adventure is months away, I am already starting to feel the effects….

For starters, I realized recently that although I’ve been making art all my life, I don’t know diddly about printmaking.

I thought, I better learn something before I go to this renowned school.

That brings me to my mini vacation this weekend….

 

3.   Do something that makes your heart sing and feeds your soul


So, this weekend, I had the pleasure of heading to the Virginia mountains to visit my artist friend and learn about monotype printmaking.

What fun! When I get absorbed into making art, it’s the BEST meditation and the BEST medicine for me.

I know this in my bones. (Why don’t I do it more often?)

Trying my hand at printmaking, I was totally inspired to create an image based on that mesmerizing, glowing forest scene that was imprinted deeply on my mind and in my heart.

Letting go of perfection, tapping into creativity and play; it was awesome.

Yes. Eating a healthy nutrient-dense diet of whole foods, getting regular exercise, and drinking plenty of clean water are all important for your health.

But, so is stress relief and deep relaxation at the soul level. I can’t tell you how spirit-lifting and healing it was to get away and feed my soul for a two-day creative adventure.  

Deep healing only happens in a relaxed state. Your body can't heal when it is always in fight or flight mode.

Your blog post was serendipitous as I am leaving on Saturday to drive across the country from DC to San Francisco with my old college roommate and friend of 44 years. I am pretty sure I will benefit in all three places!
